(Media-Newswire.com) - The University of Dayton will mark the beginning of Lent with four Ash Wednesday Masses on March 5 at 8 a.m., 10 a.m., 12:05 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. in the Immaculate Conception Chapel. This year's theme on campus is "Out of Darkness, God Has Called Us: Lent 2014."
Once again, campus ministry is taking to Twitter, Facebook and a blog to issue a Lenten challenge to its students, faculty and staff. The challenge, outlined at http://udlentenchallenge.tumblr.com, asks followers to commit to grow deeper in their faith during Lent. At @UDLiturgies on Twitter, the question is "What are your plans to grow closer to God?" The "Liturgies @ UD" Facebook page urges people to show their commitment to the Lenten challenge with a bracelet available at Masses on campus.
This Lenten season, which runs through April 16, campus ministry and the office for mission and rector will be collecting money to send to Marianist programs overseas — health clinics in Kpatchile, Togo, West Africa and Singhpur, Jharkhand, India; Our Lady of Nazareth School in Kenya, MIRACLE in Malawi, and the REDS program in India.
Besides Ash Wednesday Masses, other Lenten events include:
* Stations of the Cross at 4:30 p.m. Fridays in the Immaculate Conception Chapel.
* Lenten prayer services at 8:30 p.m. Mondays in the Marianist Hall Chapel.
* Taizé prayer services at 6 p.m. Friday, March 21, in the Marianist Martyrs Chapel and 6 p.m. Friday, April 4, in the Immaculate Conception Chapel.
* Taizé reconciliation service at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 27, in the Immaculate Conception Chapel. Taizé refers to the music style of the monks of Taizé, France.
Masses, Stations of the Cross and the Lenten prayer and reconciliation services are open to the public.
