YPSILANTI: Eastern Michigan University has awarded its prestigious Presidential Scholarships to 17 new freshmen.
(Media-Newswire.com) - YPSILANTI: Eastern Michigan University has awarded its prestigious Presidential Scholarships to 17 new freshmen.
The Presidential Scholarship is a four-year award that pays 30 credit hours ( 15 per semester ) per year of in-state tuition, housing, food allowance and mandatory fees. Students who receive these scholarships must live in University residence halls the first two years of the award, complete at least 15 credit hours per semester and maintain a 3.5 GPA.
Recipients are selected during EMU's annual Presidential Scholarship Competition. Awards are based on a competitive exam. To compete, high school seniors must have either a 3.7 GPA, with a minimum of a 25 ACT or 1,150 SAT score. Each scholarship winner also must complete a successful interview.

Caitlin Baumer, from Canton, Mich., who is pursuing the pre-med program at EMU. Baumer is a graduate of Canton High School. Sara Dedona, from Northville, Mich., is pursuing a major in the sciences and a minor in music. She is a graduate of Northville High School. Ashley Hagadon, from Flat Rock, Mich., is pursuing a major in music education. Hagadon is a graduate of Summit Academy High School. Megan Hoorn, from Northville, Mich., is pursuing a major in speech pathology. She is a graduate of South Lyon East High School. Genna Touchette, from Melvindale, Mich., is pursuing a degree in physics. Touchette is a graduate of Melvindale High School. Macomb County
Shayla McDermott, from Troy, Mich., is pursuing a degree in music therapy. McDermott graduated from Troy High School. Genesee County

Joseph Eilerman, from Cincinnati, Ohio, is pursuing a group major in language and international trade with a concentration in German. Eilerman graduated from Oak Hills High School. Alexandra Hofmann, from Indianapolis, Ind., is pursuing the pre-med program. She is a graduate of North Central High School.
