Eastern Michigan University professor participates in National Science Foundation review of 9/11 impact
YPSILANTI -- Eastern Michigan University Professor of Sociology Mansoor Moaddel is among a small group of researchers selected to participate in a National Science Foundation project reviewing the impact of 9/11.
(Media-Newswire.com) - YPSILANTI -- Eastern Michigan University Professor of Sociology Mansoor Moaddel is among a small group of researchers selected to participate in a National Science Foundation project reviewing the impact of 9/11. The project features video interviews with scientists and engineers whose research was impacted by the tragedy.
Professor Moaddel has devoted years of research to public sentiments in the Middle East, carrying out numerous surveys in conjunction with U.S. and Middle Eastern experts, and has several times shared his findings with Congress.
In the National Science Foundation interviews, he describes his studies to understand how populations in the Middle East responded not only to 9/11, but also to U. S. involvement in Iraq, and the broader cultural shifts underway in the region.
Professor Moaddel is a faculty member in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Criminology in Eastern Michigan University's College of Arts and Sciences. He also is a Research Affiliate of the Population Studies Center at the University of Michigan.
Professor Moaddel studies culture, ideology, political conflict, revolution and social change. His work currently focuses on the causes and consequences of values and attitudes of the Middle Eastern and Islamic publics. He has carried out values surveys in Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Morocco, and Saudi Arabia.
He has also carried out youth surveys in Egypt and Saudi Arabia. His previous research project analyzed the determinants of ideological production in the Islamic world. He teaches sociology of religion, ideology, revolution, Islam and the Middle East. He also teaches statistics and research methods.
