(Media-Newswire.com) - The Maytag dishwasher recall announcement was made today by parent company Whirlpool affecting nearly two million units. The Maytag dishwasher recall was made due to a potential fire hazard in the unit.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has logged 12 reports of electrical failures in the dishwasher heating element which were to have resulted in fires and damage.
One kitchen fire caused extensive damage, the agency said. No injuries have been reported.
The recall issued does not only include Maytag units but other named brands such as Amana, Jenn-Air, Admiral, Magic Chef, Performa by Maytag and Crosley brand dishwashers that have plastic tubs. Dates of the units in question were made between February 2006 through April 2010
For the most safety, users of the units should immediately stop using the dishwashers and shut off any circuit breakers powering the unit.
To remedy the situation, Maytag is offering choices including coupons towards new models or no cost in home repair of the current unit.
