Sandra Smith-Vokroi, a final year Social Work & Applied Social Studies student at the University of Bath, has just returned from the World Masters Weightlifting Championships in Sydney as ‘Games Champion’ after coming first in the ‘snatch’ and ‘clean & jerk’ categories.
(Media-Newswire.com) - Sandra Smith-Vokroi, a final year Social Work & Applied Social Studies student at the University of Bath, has just returned from the World Masters Weightlifting Championships in Sydney as ‘Games Champion’ after coming first in the ‘snatch’ and ‘clean & jerk’ categories.
Sandra also set a new games record in the 45-49 year-olds section.
Sandra’s first world championship in the senior division was in 1987; since then she has competed and medalled in over 14 international championships as well as being a team member of the British Athletic Team for shot put with former British sprinter, Linford Christie.
Sandra said: “I have a healthy love affair with weightlifting. I love muscles and will continue being physical as long as possible.”
Open to people of all abilities and most ages, the World Masters Games are the world’s largest multi-sport event, attracting twice as many competitors as the Olympic Games.
This year the competition featured over 32,000 registered athletes aged over 24.
“I am also on the verge of being entered into the European and World Master Champion ‘Hall of Fame’, which is a great honour,” added Sandra.
Sandra has used the University’s Sports Training Village facilities to prepare her for the games and coaches students in her spare time.
