(Media-Newswire.com) - The opinions of Townsville residents are being sought for the proposed upgrade of the Dalrymple Road, Banfield Drive and Angus Avenue intersection.
Main Roads Minister Craig Wallace said two options for a future upgrade can be viewed at a public display and called on the community to provide much needed feedback.
“Feedback is vital if we are to present a clear indication of community preferences,” Mr Wallace said.
“The project is currently in the concept planning phase so the feedback we receive now will be incorporated into a planning study, which will in turn help us develop a funding application for the project.
“I urge all Townsville residents to attend the public display and provide their comments.”
Mr Wallace said the upgrade options were the result of lengthy investigations.
“The project team has been at work for some time developing and refining ideas before coming to the community with two excellent options for consideration,” he said.
“The options take into account projected future urban growth and have been designed to meet the needs of motorists.”
“Option one is an overpass, which involves the construction of a four-lane bridge to take through traffic on Dalrymple Road across the existing Banfield Drive and Angus Avenue intersection.
“Option two is a fully signalised traffic intersection. This option involves removing the existing roundabout at the intersection and replacing it with a fully signalised intersection.
“Once we receive funding approval, we can finalise the design, undertake further community consultation and commit to a start date for construction.”
Member for Townsville Mandy Johnstone said rapid expansion of Townsville over recent years had included a significant amount of residential and industrial developments in suburbs along Dalrymple Road.
“The aim of upgrading the intersection is to provide safe and efficient access to Dalrymple Road, Banfield Drive and Angus Avenue,” Ms Johnstone said.
“It also needs to improve the access needs of development in the suburbs of Kirwan, Heatley, Garbutt and Mt Louisa.”
Member for Mundingburra Lindy Nelson-Carr encouraged local residents to attend the public display at the Heatley Secondary College Multimedia Centre on 3 and 4 July to have their say.
“It’s important that residents examine the options and provide feedback on what they feel will be best for their community,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.
The display will be at the school on the corner of Hanlon Street and Fulham Road on 3 July and 4 July from 9am to 4pm. Staff will be on hand to answer questions.
