(Media-Newswire.com) - Award-winning singer/songwriter Kate Miller-Heidke will help represent Queensland and showcase her work at a major European music industry event from June 29 to July 1 2009.
Trade Minister Stephen Robertson said that this was the second year MUSEXPO Europe will be held in London.
“It is important for Queensland’s music industry we help our local artists secure performance opportunities in this major global music market,” Mr Robertson said.
“Participating in MUSEXPO Europe 2009 will give Kate Miller-Heidke international industry exposure and the chance to meet with key music industry decision-makers.”
MUSEXPO Europe is an international music gathering that hosts influential music, media and technology executives from 30 countries, and features world-class showcase events that make it one of the world’s most exciting music industry conferences.
“As part of the Bligh Government’s contemporary music export strategy, QMEx, Trade Queensland works with international music industry conferences, events and festivals to provide showcasing opportunities for Queensland’s music artists and music industry businesses,” Mr Robertson said.
“Performing at MUSEXPO Europe is extremely valuable for Queensland music artists as it attracts high level industry decision-makers.
“Major and independent record labels, representatives from music distribution, licensing, TV and film music placement and publishing, music management, agents, promoters, concert and festival organisers, and technology and digital marketing providers are all present.
“International music events incorporating performances, business networking and industry conferences are a key to helping our bands access international music markets and to building the State’s contemporary music export industry.”
With Trade Queensland’s assistance, local artist Chris Pickering and Brisbane bands Yves Klein Blue and Dead Letter Circus all performed at MUSEXPO LA at the end of April.
“Previous Queensland performers who have attended MUSEXPO LA have secured licensing deals, synchronisation deals for TV and advertising, and have been invited to showcase at music festivals all around the world,” Mr Robertson said.
“Kate Miller-Heidke has this year already taken out the coveted International Songwriting Competition ( ISC ) Grand Prize.
“Trade Queensland is also contracting two UK companies to assist with booking extra performances, touring logistics, marketing and public relations.”
Kate and her songwriting partner, Keir Nuttall, were awarded US$45 000 in cash and prizes after being selected from more than 15 500 competition entries from more than 100 countries.
Their song, Caught In The Crowd, was chosen as the Grand Prize winner by an international panel of high profile industry professionals including Rob Thomas from Matchbox 20, Neil Finn, Jerry Lee Lewis, Weird Al Yankovic and Chaka Khan.
“The lead-up to this year’s MUSEXPO Europe will include the International Songwriting Summit and, following her ISC win, Kate Miller-Heidke will undoubtedly attract a great deal of interest at this event,” Mr Robertson said.
“I look forward to seeing the outcomes and to working with Trade Queensland to develop opportunities forged for the State’s dynamic contemporary music export industry through our representatives at MUSEXPO Europe 2009,” Mr Robertson said.
