(Media-Newswire.com) - Public Works Minister Robert Schwarten is encouraging children and parents to take advantage of the School Holiday Fun at Roma Street Parkland during these school holidays.
Mr Schwarten said from today, Roma Street Parkland would host a range of entertaining events and activities including a jumping castle, face painting and barnyard babies from the RSPCA.
“Twice a year, Roma Street Parkland hosts School Holiday Fun making it the perfect school holiday destination to enjoy a fun day out with family and friends,” Mr Schwarten said.
“For young children, there is a free game of ‘I spy’ in the Spectacle Garden and roaming theatrical performances by the Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble.
“A trackless train adventure tour will transport children around the parkland so they can explore the sights.
“Also not to be missed for children aged 4 - 12 are gardening activities, drama classes and breakdancing workshops.
“There will be a sausage sizzle stand - but it’s also a great opportunity for families to bring along a picnic lunch and enjoy the surrounds of all that the parkland has to offer.”
Transport Minister Rachel Nolan said the event was sponsored by TRANSLink and Queensland Rail’s positive pARTnerships.
“All children travelling with their parents to School Holiday Fun with TRANSLink will gain free access to a host of events and activities, and if not a gold coin donation to the RSPCA will apply,” Ms Nolan said.
“TRANSLink will also run catch and release fishing by the Lakeside for kids aged 8 - 12 on Saturday, 4 July,” she said.
“I would encourage everyone to come along for an entertaining and affordable day out.”
School Holiday Fun ends on July 3. Registration for the gardening activities, drama fun and breakdancing workshop can be done on the day; bookings for the catch and release fishing are essential.
The Roma Street Parklands are maintained by the Department of Public Works.
