(Media-Newswire.com) - The Queensland Government will join other states and territories in adopting new uniform rules regarding the payment of payroll tax.
Queensland Treasurer Andrew Fraser today announced that Queensland would implement the new rules, which will apply to those employers that have staff who work in more than one jurisdiction in a month, such as in the airline industry.
Mr Fraser said that from 1 July 2009, payroll tax would be paid to the jurisdiction where the worker resides.
In cases where the worker does not reside in Australia, tax would be paid to the jurisdiction where the registered Australian Business Number address of the employer was located.
“This announcement brings Queensland into alignment with all other states and territories in relation to this issue,” Mr Fraser said.
“These changes will simplify payroll tax for those employers who operate across multiple jurisdictions and save on compliance costs.”
Mr Fraser said Queensland’s Office of State Revenue would provide information about the changes to all employers affected by the decision.
