Local Government Minister Desley Boyle today announced an additional $628,275 funding for the Tablelands Regional Council to help meet the costs of installing a sewerage system in Malanda.
Ms Boyle said the $14.5 million project was an example of the Bligh Government's commitment to building infrastructure that secures the future of rural communities.
(Media-Newswire.com) - Local Government Minister Desley Boyle today announced an additional $628,275 funding for the Tablelands Regional Council to help meet the costs of installing a sewerage system in Malanda.
Ms Boyle said the $14.5 million project was an example of the Bligh Government’s commitment to building infrastructure that secures the future of rural communities.
“The Malanda Sewerage Scheme is a significant infrastructure project involving the construction of a new sewerage treatment plant and a gravity collection system,” Ms Boyle said.
“This project will improve living standards and address health and economic issues in Malanda. It underscores the Bligh Government’s commitment to investing in Tomorrow’s Queensland by building the essential infrastructure of the future.
“There will be significant benefits for residents and businesses alike.”
Tenders for the project will be called in mid 2009, with the project expected to be completed in mid 2010.
Ms Boyle said the Queensland Government has committed almost $10 million to the project through various schemes and subsidies.
