(Media-Newswire.com) - Local Government Minister Desley Boyle today announced $224,663 in funding for Banana Shire Council’s recycled water project.
Ms Boyle said the scheme would help council manage its water resources during the current State-declared drought conditions and into the future.
“While communities around the State have been lucky enough to have their drought status revoked, Banana Shire Council remains in drought which makes projects like this essential to securing Biloela’s future,” Ms Boyle said.
“The Bligh Government is committed to building Tomorrow’s Queensland and this project will help ensure Biloela is able to meet the water requirements of future growth.
“About 38 per cent of Biloela’s annual water usage is scheduled to come from sub-artesian bores and the new recycled water project will reduce the demand on the bores.
“Council proposes to use treated water from the Biloela Sewage Treatment Plant to wash down vehicles and to supply recycled water standpipes.”
“Building water and sewerage infrastructure has been an important part of the Bligh Government’s strategy to ensure councils are prepared for the future with infrastructure that is both environmentally sustainable and also able to meet the challenges of future growth,” Ms Boyle said.
