(Media-Newswire.com) - Main Roads Minister Craig Wallace said claims that free-flow tolling had been delayed on the Gateway and Logan motorways were completely false.
“The National Party’s Fiona Simpson needs to get her facts straight before she goes off half-cocked and makes sensationalist and untrue claims,” Mr Wallace said.
“It has always been the case that the transition to free-flow tolling would start on 1 July with the cash booths remaining for the first few weeks so motorists had time to adjust to free-flow tolling.
“In fact, if Ms Simpson had bothered to listen to me in Parliament on 20 May, she would have heard me tell the House that the toll booths would be phased out from July.
“This is just one instance where this message has been delivered over the past six months.
“Queensland Motorways is implementing a deliberate staged transition to free-flow tolling in order to ensure cash-paying customers have time to adjust to the new go via payment methods.
“From tomorrow, motorists will be able to buy and use the new go viavideo payment options, including passes for occasional users of the motorways.
“This information has been actively promoted on the govia.com.au website and if Ms Simpson had bothered to visit the website she would see there is detailed information about the various payment methods available for everyone from the everyday to casual user.
“There has also been no attempt to hide fees associated with free-flow tolling. Fees and charges associated with free-flow tolling were announced in January this year and they have been advertised in print media, on the website and in many media interviews.
“If this is an example of the half-baked research that the National Party is doing, it’s no wonder they have no policies and no ideas.”
