(Media-Newswire.com) - Bath Spa University is running a series of mock lessons to help recruit more trainee teachers for secondary schools.
The 'Taste of Teaching' event, on Thursday 2 July, will focus on six priority subjects with a national shortage of teachers at secondary level - Mathematics, Science, Information and Communications Technology ( ICT ), Design and Technology, Modern Languages and Music.
More than 100 children from two local secondary schools, John Bentley School at Calne in Wiltshire and Culverhay School in Bath, are being drafted in as pupils for the showcase lessons, to be given by course leaders and trainees from Bath Spa University's Secondary PGCE course.
Potential teacher training recruits from among the public have been invited to come and observe any of the classes, which will take place at the University's Culverhay Campus. It's hoped the day will inspire some of the spectators to pursue a career in teaching.
The lessons, with 10 children in each and involving an age range of 11 to 15, will be made fun and interactive for all.
'Taste of Teaching' organiser Susan Haywood said: "It will give people who are thinking of a career in teaching the opportunity to see a snapshot of how these priority subjects can be taught in an enjoyable way, in a situation that is as close as possible to the real thing."
