(Media-Newswire.com) - Colac Otway bus travellers are set to benefit from $120,000 in bus improvements.
Public Transport Minister Lynne Kosky said the Shire of Colac Otway had been awarded a grant to implement a range of bus infrastructure improvements.
Upper House Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney said the funding will be used to upgrade ten bus stops throughout the Colac Otway area.
“These bus stop upgrades will make it safer and more comfortable for people to get around Colac by bus,” Ms Tierney said.
“The upgrades complement the recent boost to Colac City Bus Services and will include replacing several old concrete shelters on the bus routes in the Shire of Colac Otway.”
Ms Kosky said the improvements were part of the Brumby Government’s commitment to improving public transport infrastructure and services in regional Victoria.
“The Brumby Government is taking action to improve public transport links and has committed $510 million to help deliver first class public transport services to regional Victoria,” Ms Kosky said.
“Buses are an essential public transport option in regional communities, with residents relying on them to get to work, school, health services and recreational facilities.
“We are delivering a number of bus service improvements throughout regional Victoria as well as bus infrastructure projects.”
Work on the upgrades is due to start mid year and will be completed by September this year.
