More than £10 million of extra cash is being invested in Lancashire schools next year.
(Media-Newswire.com) - More than £10 million of extra cash is being invested in Lancashire schools next year.
On the recommendation of the Lancashire Schools Forum, schools chief County Councillor Matthew Tomlinson has approved the distribution of £10.6m from schools budget reserves to top up the county's education grant of £861m for 2015-16.
County Councillor Tomlinson, cabinet member for children, young people and schools, said: "I'm very pleased to have been able to approve, in consultation with the Schools Forum, a budget that will see schools receive an increase in funding compared to last year, despite the government grant for schools being frozen.
"We have been able to find this increased funding as a one-off by using schools budget reserves relating to underspends from previous years. Providing extra funding on a per-pupil basis to schools in these times of financial hardship will help us all in supporting children and young people in Lancashire."
The Lancashire Schools Forum is a statutory body made up of representatives of headteachers, governing bodies and representatives of other relevant organisations within Lancashire. The Forum advises the county council on matters relating to school funding and has certain decision-making powers.
