Award-winning journalist Marc Lamont Hill to address issues affecting underrepresented students, strategies for success Sept. 17 at Eastern Michigan University
YPSILANTI- Marc Lamont Hill, an award-winning journalistand author, will address racial, social and cultural issues during a presentation at Eastern Michigan University Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. in the EMU Student Center Auditorium, located at 900 Oakwood Dr., Ypsilanti.
(Media-Newswire.com) - YPSILANTI- Marc Lamont Hill, an award-winning journalistand author, will address racial, social and cultural issues during a presentation at Eastern Michigan University Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. in the EMU Student Center Auditorium, located at 900 Oakwood Dr., Ypsilanti.
Originally scheduled for Sept. 9, the date was changed because of a family emergency.
The event, which kicks off the fall 2014 Equality Speaks Lecture Series, is free and open to the public.
Hill will talk about injustices and issues affecting underrepresented students that often keep them from succeeding in college. He also will provide students with strategies on how to be actively involved in their own success and the success of other struggling communities.
Hill is a popular host for Huffington Post Live and BET News, and is a frequent political contributor for CNN and Fox News. A professor of African American Studies at Morehouse College, he is also an award-winning author of three books on topics such as the classroom, writing and anthropology.
The Center for Multicultural Affairs hosts the Equality Speaks Lecture Series in which EMU students can “engage with national thought leaders on social issues, timely research topics, and artistic movements about and with underrepresented people.” The King Chavez Parks Visiting Professor Program at EMU also supports the lecture series.
