(Media-Newswire.com) - Golfer Phil Mickelson captured the 2010 Masters Tournament green jacket winning the event and celebrating with wife Amy. The 2010 Masters Leaderboard had Phil Mickelson on top after a masterful performance Sunday from Augusta.
Fred Couples, the leader after the first round, seemed like he was going to make a run at becoming the oldest major champion, sitting at 3-under for the round and 10-under for the tournament through ten holes of Sunday’s final round, but after bogeying the par-4 11th hole, Couples found the water on the 12th and ended up with a double-bogey. Couples finished the round 2-under par, good enough for sixth place at 9-under par for the tournament. Nick Watney matched Anthony Kim’s 7-under par final round to finish in seventh place at 8-under for the tournament. Watney sandwiched his closing 65 and an opening round 68 around a 76 and 71 in rounds two and three, respectively.
Phil Mickelson shot his third 67 of the tournament to pull away from the rest of the field and win his third Masters title. Mickelson entered the final round at 11-under par, trailing Lee Westwood of England by one stroke. Mickelson was steady from the start, beginning his round with pars on the first seven holes. He got hot from there, with birdies on the 8th, 12th, 13th, 15th, and 18th holes, and no bogeys to finish at 5-under for the round, and 16-under for the tournament, three shots ahead of Westwood who shot a final round 71.
Ian Poulter, the co-leader at 8-under par after two rounds struggled to his second straight round over par, shooting a 1-over 73 that left him at 5-under for the tournament.
