(Media-Newswire.com) - The top seed in the 2010 NIT Tournament opening round has lost in a stunning upset. The team from Arizona State lost the opening game of the 2010 NIT Tournament bracket schedule by the score of 67-66 in the final seconds against number eight seed Jacksonville.
The star of the game for Jacksonville was Ben Smith who scored 26 points for the Dolphins. Smith won the game with a 25 foot shot from the floor with just barely more than one second on the clock before the end of the game. Smith scored all but three of his total points in the second half of the game.
The three point shot put Jacksonville up by one point which sealed the victory and shocked the NIT tournament by the top seeds early exit.
The win gives the Dolphins their first NIT victory in almost 35 years.
Jacksonville was seeded number eight coming into the tournament's opening day on March 16.
