OAKDALE, La. - A 68-year-old Guatemalan national being held by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) pending removal died Saturday morning at Oakdale Community Hospital (OCH), due to complications from a cancerous stomach tumor.
(Media-Newswire.com) - OAKDALE, La. - A 68-year-old Guatemalan national being held by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE ) pending removal died Saturday morning at Oakdale Community Hospital ( OCH ), due to complications from a cancerous stomach tumor.
Arnulfo Rodriguez-Solis, an ICE detainee at the Federal Detention Center in Oakdale, La., was admitted to OCH on Feb. 15, for treatment of a digestive obstruction. On Feb. 24, an examination of Rodriguez-Solis' stomach revealed a large cancerous mass.
Rodriguez-Solis was taken into ICE custody on Feb. 5, following his release from the Federal Correctional Institute ( FCI ) Forrest City, a Federal Bureau of Prisons ( BOP ) facility in Forrest City, Arkansas.
ICE continues its efforts to identify Rodriguez-Solis' family members in the United States. The only known family members are believed to be three children who reside at unknown addresses in Central America. Guatemalan consular officials were advised by ICE of Rodriguez-Solis' medical condition shortly after its discovery. They have also been notified of his death. Consistent with ICE protocol, the appropriate state health and local law enforcement agencies have also been informed.
Rodriguez-Solis is the fifth detainee to pass away in ICE custody in fiscal year 2010.
