(Media-Newswire.com) - A strong 4.4 earthquake hit LA this morning, with Los Angeles residents waking up due to the tremor in their California homes. Despite the LA earthquake hitting the area, no major damage reports or deaths have been reported as of yet. One scattered report of an Interstate highway having damaged pavement has been reported. The earthquake struck approximately ten miles outside of the Los Angeles area. The reported time of the event was around 4 AM local LA time.
The U.S. Geological Survey confirmed the quake and its 4.4 magnitude.
Reports indicate the quake was felt in many areas north and south of the epicenter.
A major concern for the California areas is after shocks which sometimes cause more damage than the initial tremor. Earthquakes in Chile and Haiti produced massive aftershock which further damaged already weakened areas.
