A renowned Scottish poet and a US-based Nobel Prize-winner will be honoured by the University of St Andrews next week (Monday 30 November 2009).
(Media-Newswire.com) - A renowned Scottish poet and a US-based Nobel Prize-winner will be honoured by the University of St Andrews next week ( Monday 30 November 2009 ).
Douglas Dunn, a retired Professor of English at the University and Anthony Leggett, a Professor of Physics at the University of Illinois, will be awarded honorary degrees during this year's St Andrew's Day ceremony.
Professor Dunn, a poet, writer and critic, will be made a Doctor of Letters ( Hon D.Litt ) in the morning ceremony, while Professor Leggett will be made a Doctor of Science ( Hon DSc ) in the afternoon.
The University recently acquired a hidden treasure trove of unpublished poems, letters and notes by Professor Dunn, spanning forty years of his life's work. Professor Leggett meanwhile - who was awarded the Nobel prize in 2003 for his work on superfluidity - will deliver a public lecture at the University on Friday.
