(Media-Newswire.com) - Rev. Thomas J. Reese, S.J., will deliver “Reforming the Vatican: What the Church can learn from other institutions” during a free and public lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 19, in the Tony and Lucille Weasler Auditorium, 1442 W. Wisconsin Ave.
Father Reese will reflect on the ways in which the structure and leadership of the Church have adapted to meet the needs of the faithful throughout history. He will also address specific successful practices in civil society that might benefit the day-to-day operation of the Vatican in the future.
Father Reese is a senior research fellow at the Woodstock Theological Center at Georgetown University, with research ranging from episcopal conferences to the Catechism for the Universal Church. He was a visiting fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in 1994 and was the editor-in-chief of America magazine from 1998 through 2005. He has published a number of books including Archbishop: Inside the Power Structure of the American Catholic Church, A Flock of Shepherds: The National Conference of Catholic Bishops, and Inside the Vatican: The Politics and Organization of the Catholic Church.
