(Media-Newswire.com) - Award winning garden writers, Christine and Michael Lavelle, have just received a Garden Media Guild award under the “Practical Book of the Year” category in these prestigious national awards. 'How to Create a Wildlife Garden' beat off stiff competition from other writers, and has confirmed the reputation of its co-writers within this important sector of the horticulture industry, by being unanimously voted the winner of the award. In the words of the Judging Panel: “Breathtaking photography, great structure, and an easy writing style draw the reader through from beginning to end. Excellent step-by-step projects, a good plant directory and a brilliant wildlife directory complete the package.”
Christine and Mick Lavelle are both lecturers in Horticulture at Writtle College - Christine teaching horticulture at further education level, while Michael ( Mick ) teaches higher education students.
They are already particularly familiar with the Garden Media Guild award ceremony, as their first book, 'Organic Gardening', won the same Practical Book of the Year award in 2003, making them the first Authors ever to win in this category twice.
Christine said, “When our first book won a national award we were staggered. With this recognition for both of our books, I can't help but think we must be doing something right.”
Mick Commented, “We wanted to write a book that demystified this area of gardening. Whilst we aimed it with first-time gardeners in mind, anyone can use it. Our intention was to offer good hands-on practical advice and projects that can be completed in a home garden, but are based upon sound professional practices.”
The Garden Media Guild awards are now in their 17th year, the Awards are nationally known celebrating the very best of horticultural communications in diverse media. Winners and short listed entries were announced at the Guild's Awards Lunch held at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London on 20th November 2008.
