FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Sacred Heart University and St. Vincent's Medical Center have formed a partnership that will lead to increased access to physicians by students and combine the efforts of two of the largest Catholic institutions in the region. The agreement will improve the access students have to physicians on campus at the student wellness center known as the Park Avenue House. Up to four physicians will rotate in and out of the Park Avenue House for two, five 5-hour shifts per week on Tuesday afternoons and Friday mornings.
(Media-Newswire.com) - FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Sacred Heart University and St. Vincent’s Medical Center have formed a partnership that will lead to increased access to physicians by students and combine the efforts of two of the largest Catholic institutions in the region.
The agreement will improve the access students have to physicians on campus at the student wellness center known as the Park Avenue House. Up to four physicians will rotate in and out of the Park Avenue House for two, five 5-hour shifts per week on Tuesday afternoons and Friday mornings.
“We are the two largest faith-based institutions in the County, so it makes perfect sense that we collaborate to improve the health and well-being of students who attend Sacred Heart,” said Kaye McIntosh, director of Physician Practice Management of St. Vincent’s.
“Our access to St. Vincent’s Medical Center services will be enhanced and increased,” said Dean of Students Larry Wielk. “We’ll always have that continuity of service.”
The agreement places the Park Avenue House under the medical direction of St. Vincent’s physicians. The nurse and nurse practitioner that regularly work in the Park Avenue House are authorized to practice at Sacred Heart under the direction of St. Vincent’s.
And in cases when students must visit St. Vincent’s Immediate Health Center or the hospital itself, there will be a smooth transition of records because of the new arrangement. And when students attend the clinic on Main Street, they will be seen by the same physicians rotating in-and-out of the Park Avenue House.
“We are able to offer some increased doctors’ hours,” Wielk said. “It provides us with a nice partnership with a leading medical center in the State of Connecticut.”
