COLNE Road Library in Burnley is holding a community event on Saturday, 16 August, as the service prepares to move to the new purpose-built Burnley Campus Community Library in Barden Lane.
The local community are invited to attend a day of activities and exhibitions to celebrate the history of Colne Road Library and to look forward to the fantastic facilities the new community library will provide.
(Media-Newswire.com) - COLNE Road Library in Burnley is holding a community event on Saturday, 16 August, as the service prepares to move to the new purpose-built Burnley Campus Community Library in Barden Lane.
The local community are invited to attend a day of activities and exhibitions to celebrate the history of Colne Road Library and to look forward to the fantastic facilities the new community library will provide.
There will be something for everyone including a number of photographic displays where you can step back in time and view the history of the Colne Road area, local hospitals and past images of the library with the opportunity to view images of the new Community Library on Burnley Campus.
Children will receive a free gift and can enjoy looking round a Fire engine, Police CCTV vehicle and a 'Black Maria', or visit the 'Animal Man' with his creepy crawlies, snakes and spiders
Silk screen printing with textile artist, Jacqueline Smith, and aromatherapy sessions will also be available one the day along with information from local community groups.
As part of the celebrations, the library is holding a design a bookmark competition. It is open to all ages and the winning design will be used by Lancashire County Council's Library and Information Service to produce a new bookmark advertising the new Burnley Campus Library.
The winner will be announced at the event and will receive a £10 book token and a signed copy of 'Ultimate Goals', written by Martin Dobson, ex England, Everton and Burnley footballer. Martin will be there to present the prize to the winner.
Competition entry forms are available from Colne Road Library and the closing date for completed designs is Tuesday, 12 August.
The event will run from 1.30 to 4pm and refreshments will be available. The afternoon is free to attend including all activities.
