(Media-Newswire.com) - Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, today called on South West London Assembly member, Tony Arbour, to apologise for his comments at a Richmond Council meeting equating social rented housing to 'housing for riff-raff'.
The Mayor also called on Mr Arbour to reverse his longstanding opposition to the target that 50 per cent of all new homes in London should be affordable.
Ken Livingstone said,
“There is a clear account of what Tony Arbour actually said in the Richmond and Twickenham Times. It is quite clear from this that his remarks were unacceptable - and his desperate attempts to explain them away after the event do not hold water.
‘More importantly he should stop trying to block proposals for more affordable homes to be built in Richmond and end his opposition to my London Plan target that 50 per cent of all new homes should be affordable. Polls show that 83 per cent of Londoners back my target. In his choice of language and his policy approach Tony Arbour is out of step."
Ends.
