(Media-Newswire.com) - PROVO, Utah—The BYU Alumni Association has more followers than any other alumni association on Twitter, the social networking program that facilitates short, frequent updates.

“As far as truly engaged alumni associations go, BYU leads all others in both number of followers and the amount of people they follow,” said Ryan Erisman of AlmaMatters.org.

“It’s good to see my alma mater on here,” said BYU graduate Adam Denison (’07) in a “tweeted” Twitter message to the BYU Alumni Association.

Followers of the BYU Alumni Association receive updates on news, events and ways to stay connected with BYU.

“Part of our overall strategy is to find new ways to keep in touch and communicate with our alumni,” said Keith Lue, BYU alumni outreach manager. “We want to create a community where people care about each other, their communities and the university.”

The BYU Alumni Association updates are often concluded with “Connected for good” or “C4G,” in hopes to remind alumni to follow the BYU motto, “go forth to serve,” Lue said. Also, Twitter facilitates networking within the alumni who follow the alumni association.

“If there is a group of people geographically dispersed that you are interested in connecting with, it [Twitter] is a good way to do that,” said Jon Mott, BYU assistant to the vice president—technology. “For the alumni association, its use of Twitter is probably more informational. But for the alumni themselves, if they follow the alumni feed and then they start following each other, that’s where some interesting things happen.”
