Fourteen new Professors have been appointed at The University of Nottingham in this year's round of academic promotions. In addition, 18 talented academics have been promoted to the position of Associate Professor and Reader, and a further 27 are promoted to Associate Professor.Many of these highly accomplished academics feature in the Media Guide to Expertise at The University of Nottingham which now has more than 600 listings.
(Media-Newswire.com) - Fourteen new Professors have been appointed at The University of Nottingham in this year's round of academic promotions.
In addition, 18 talented academics have been promoted to the position of Associate Professor and Reader, and a further 27 are promoted to Associate Professor.

The newly promoted Professors cover a diverse range of subjects. Here is a just a flavour of some of their work:
COLIN HEYWOOD is promoted to Professor of Modern French History. His main expertise is in the economic development of France, popular politics during the nineteenth century, and above all the history of childhood and youth.
RICHARD BELL becomes Professor of Theology. His research concerns the Theology of the New Testament with special interests in Christology, Atonement, Israel and Demonology. He has also worked on the relationship of Theology to myth and the Natural Sciences.
ROLAND DEINES, who is appointed Professor of New Testament Studies, is focusing on Jesus in history and theology, the relation of the New Testament writings to their wider Jewish context, and interested in the question of faith and history. He is also an expert on the Pharisees.
GEORGE CHEN is promoted to Professor of Electrochemical Technologies. His research aims at scientific understanding of electrons, ions and molecules at solid=liquid boundaries, and engineering innovations for materials (titanium and conducting polymers), environment (CO2 and pollutants) and energy (stores and carriers).
JOHN CROWE is promoted to Professor of Biomedical Engineering. His expertise is in the development and assessment of instrumentation for use in healthcare. This has included fetal monitors and optical-based devices.
VICTORIA CHAPMAN is appointed Professor of Neuropharmacology in the School of Biomedical Sciences. Her research on pain processing and the mechanisms of action of analgesics is focused on cannabis-based medicines.
MIGUEL CΑMARA has been promoted to Professor of Molecular Microbiology. He works in the molecular biology of bacterial cell-cell signalling in clinical and environmental settings with a view to develop novel antimicrobial and antifouling agents.
PAUL CRAWFORD becomes Professor of Health Humanities in The University of Nottingham School of Nursing, Midwifery and Physiotherapy. He is an expert in health communication and leads a programme of interdisciplinary research to widen the application of humanities disciplines in healthcare.
PHIL GARNSWORTHY becomes Professor of Dairy Science. His expertise is in dairy cow nutrition, with particular emphasis on how diet influences metabolism, reproductive performance, environmental impact and the fatty acid profile of milk.
JOHN BARRETT becomes Professor of Mathematical Physics. He works on using mathematical techniques from geometry, topology and algebra to solve the problem of unifying gravity with quantum physics.
CAMERON ALEXANDER is promoted to Professor of Polymer Therapeutics. Previously an EPSRC Advanced Research Fellow, his work focuses on developing new materials to deliver therapeutic drugs and cells to target sites in the body.
ALFONSO ARAGΣN-SALAMANCA becomes Professor of Astronomy in The University of Nottingham's School of Physics and Astronomy. His main field of research is Extragalactic Astronomy, studying the formation and evolution of galaxies.
MALCOLM SWAN becomes Professor of Mathematics Education. His research interests lie in the design of teaching and assessment for mathematics education. This includes the design of situations which foster reflection, discussion and metacognitive activity; the design of situations in which children are able to construct mathematical concepts and the design of assessment tools that enable us to evaluate learning.
STEVEN FIELDING is appointed Professor of Political History. He is Director of the Centre for British Politics; his research interests have mainly focused on the Labour Party and he is currently working on the fictional representation of politics in the UK and USA.
