(Media-Newswire.com) - An Advisory Committee will be appointed to review a planning permit application for a concrete crushing facility at Clarinda.
Planning Minister Justin Madden today announced his decision citing the application may have a significant impact on the future planning of Melbourne’s green wedge areas.
“The proposed development raises serious planning issues that need to be thoroughly examined, which is why I have taken the step of calling this application in,” Mr Madden said.
Mr Madden said he called-in the application in response to requests by Kingston Shire Council, community organisation Defenders of the South East Green Wedge and developer, The Alex Fraser Group.
It follows an earlier decision by the Mr Madden to grant planning approval to the Alex Fraser Group’s existing concrete crushing facility in Tootal Road, Dingley.
Mr Madden made the decision to grant an 18-month time limited permit for the Dingley site after careful consideration of an independent panel report on the matter.
The short-term permit allowed interim continuation of the operation while the proponent’s new application was considered by Kingston Council.
“This proposal raises issues of state significance which is why I have decided to intervene,” Mr Madden said.
“I will now appoint an Advisory Committee to provide the Government with a recommendation on the merits of the proposed concrete crushing plant at Clarinda.”
Member for Mordialloc, Janice Munt welcomed Mr Madden’s decision.
“This gives the local community a voice on the proposed application and I urge them to make use of this opportunity,” Ms Munt said.
Member for Clayton, Hong Lim said the issue was sensitive to locals and welcomed Mr Madden’s further investigation of the application.
The Alex Fraser Group has made a permit application for a new concrete crushing facility at 293-315 Kingston Road, Clarinda.
