(Media-Newswire.com) - Melbourne company Exinda Networks launched a new global research and development centre in Abbotsford today, confirming Victoria’s place at the forefront of Australia’s ICT industry.

Information and Communication Technology Minister Theo Theophanous, who officially opened the new research centre, said Exinda was an example of how local Victorian companies were taking on the world.

“In just over three years Exinda has grown from a small business in suburban Melbourne into a thriving global enterprise – a prime example of how Victorian ICT is taking this industry in the right direction,” Mr Theophanous said.

The Melbourne-based company now has offices in the United States, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Europe, the Middle East and Latin America.

“Exinda is successfully taking on the world market with innovative research and development and the company’s decision to base their global facility in Victoria is recognition of the state as the centre of ICT in the region,” Mr Theophanous said.

"With local companies continuing to expand domestically and globally, Victoria can look forward to strong growth in the ICT industry."

Exinda’s success is based around its wide area network (WAN) optimisation appliances, designed and developed in Victoria, that increase efficiency of business networks by classifying, prioritising and accelerating programs.

“The new research centre will enable Exinda to expand its professional staff and respond to increased demand for developing greater network efficiency, quality assurance and support services for its clients globally,” Mr Theophanous said.

Exinda Chief Technology Officer Chris Siakos said support from the Brumby Government had helped the company gain international exposure.

“We participated in several Victorian Government sponsored trade missions in Germany, China, United Arab Emirates, the UK and the US,” Mr Siakos said.

“By taking part in these delegations, we were able to explore what was required to enter the global marketplace and build international business networks.”

The Brumby Government’s ICT Trade Events and Export Assistance Program assists local companies to showcase their products and services at some of the world’s most prestigious ICT trade shows.

Victorian headquartered ICT companies have annual revenues of $1.8 billion from overseas operations and exports of equipment and services. For more information on Victorian Government support for ICT companies visit www.mmv.vic.gov.au/TradeFairs.
